WOODBURN, Ore., Sept. 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Kerr Contractors, Inc. (KCI), a leading regional heavy civil general contracting firm headquartered in Woodburn, Oregon, has acquired the milling division of Kodiak Pacific, also of Oregon. As a result, Kerr’s milling division becomes the largest road milling company in the state, and one of the largest in the Pacific Northwest.

Paving contractors throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Utah and Alaska utilize Kerr’s milling division for road surface recycling and soil stabilization work on projects ranging from highways, airport runways and commercial development parking lots to smaller jobs such as trenching, cleanup, and site work preparation and stabilization.

“This acquisition adds a number of road milling machines to our fleet and significantly increases our capacity,” said KCI Founder and President Brent Kerr. “In recent years, we’ve seen a much higher demand for milling and soil stabilization services, primarily due to the increased interest in recycling, and this acquisition allows us to respond to new opportunities throughout the region without diminishing our ability to meet the needs of the paving contractors currently using us.”

The KCI milling division, headed by Milling Manager/Estimator John Mengler, operates as an independent entity of Kerr Contractors. “Only about 10 percent of our work is for Kerr Contractors,” said Mengler. “With the vast majority of our business coming from other paving contractors in the region we don’t share any inside information about other contractor’s bids, and we don’t give preferential pricing to KCI. We have the trust of other paving contractors and we’re not going to do anything to jeopardize that. Number one, it wouldn’t be in our best interest to give preferential treatment because we’d lose our other customers. Also, it would be unethical and Brent Kerr wouldn’t allow it.”

Kerr Contractors, Inc. (www.kerrcontractors.com) has been a leader in heavy civil construction since its founding in 1988, completing many of the region’s largest and most high-profile projects including major arterial and highway construction, freeway interchanges, airport improvements, large diameter water transmission mains, and regional shopping centers.
