Caron Treatment Centers to Acquire Hanley Center

Two of the nation’s leading addiction treatment organizations join forces to deliver a more robust continuum of care

PR Newswire

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., May 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Caron Treatment Centers and the Hanley Center today announced an agreement where Caron will acquire the Hanley Center, and Hanley will become an affiliate of Caron by July 1, 2011. Both organizations are non-profits. For the foreseeable future, both entities will retain their respective names and will provide a more comprehensive continuum of treatment ranging from adolescence through older adulthood.

“We have always had a profound respect for the Hanley Center’s approach to advancing the field of addiction treatment, and by combining our collective experience, we will now be able to provide even stronger evidence-based treatment,” said Doug Tieman, Caron’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “While Caron is known for our continuum of treating adolescents and young adults, Hanley enjoys a solid reputation for its boomer and older adult programs. This acquisition unifies our continuum of treatment programs, while greatly improving accessibility and the number of beds available to people up and down the eastern seaboard of the US, particularly in Palm Beach County. It’s a logical, strategic step for both organizations that will create new opportunities in the field of addiction treatment.”

Dr. Barbara Krantz, Chief Executive Officer and Medical Research Director at the Hanley Center, added that the minimal overlap of the addiction treatment programs at both centers was a key factor in the creation of this affiliation. “From new medical technology and the addition of top-tier medical professionals, our collective resources will facilitate us doing more than ever before, and more for the industry in its own right.”

As a result of the venture, Hanley Center will be able to accelerate its plan to expand its West Palm Beach campus, and in a relatively short time will be adding at least twenty more residential beds for a new specialty treatment program. When the organizations officially come together, Doug Tieman will serve as its Chief Executive Officer, and Andrew Rothermel, Caron’s Chief Financial and Administrative Officer, will oversee all Florida operations, including the Hanley Center, Gate Lodge, and Caron Renaissance. Dr. Barbara Krantz will transition full time into the role of Chief Medical Officer, and Medical Research Director at Hanley Center in Florida.

“The Hanley Center Foundation Board of Directors recognizes the potential and far-reaching possibilities created by this bold step,” said James Myers, Jr., Chairman of the Hanley Center Foundation Board Directors. “We anticipate a very productive partnership and look forward to sharing philanthropic activities that will have more impact than ever on our mission to provide help and hope to those touched by the disease of addiction.”

The Hanley Center Foundation will provide charitable support to both Hanley Center and Caron Treatment Centers, and will continue to be led by the Foundation’s CEO, Rachel Docekal.
