TRW Automotive Inc. (TRW) has showcased the full range of Driver Assistance Systems (DAS) technologies at a customer event organized in Hockenheim, Germany. The company also displayed its 24 GHz radar (AC100) along with its scalable video camera (S-CAM) at the event.
TRW Automotive is introducing new modular radar platform and next generation camera in the market. This advanced technology will provide automobile safety at affordable rates. In addition, the technology will abide by pedestrian safety criteria of European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP).
The company’s radar platform offers a full range of DAS technologies including Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), AEB, Blind Spot Detection (BSD) and Side Impact Sensing (SIS). Its cameras encompass a wide range of safety aids like Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) or Lane Centering Assist (LCA), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) and pedestrian detection for Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB).
Euro NCAP is promoting the AEB systems in the automobiles to achieve the 5 star safety rating from 2014. Vehicles, which will be produced from 2016, need to incorporate the AEB system to achieve the 5 star rating in the pedestrian category. The DAS portfolio developed by TRW Automotive helps vehicle manufacturers in obtaining the top ratings in all relevant categories.
The next generation modular AC1000 radar platform satisfies the Euro NCAP criteria for the AEB system. After detecting a pedestrian the technology employs sophisticated risk assessment algorithms for determining the probability of collision. Either it gives a warning signal or lowers the vehicle speed to reduce the impact.
