Ecolab (ECL) revealed that it is again partnering China’s State Food and Drug Administration Institute for Executive Development (SFDAIED) to carry out training on food safety for the food service industry. The partnership is in alignment with the current five-year food safety plan in China and is designed to train Chinese workers engaged in the food service industry.
Ecolab is the world leader in developing and providing products and services for food services, water, energy and healthcare industry. The partnership underlines Ecolab’s efforts at sharing knowhow and solutions with the Chinese food service industry.
As per management, the training program is a reflection of the company’s commitment towards upgrading Chinese food safety practices. The aim is to boost consumer confidence in China.
SFDAIED monitors training for planning and education, food and drug regulatory systems, the policies and associated theories as well as research and international exchange of ideas. Experts at SFDAIED and Ecolab will conduct training for food service providers and large, state-owned restaurants in Beijing, Wahun and Baise. This is expected to strengthen operational standards, promote food safety practices and increase public awareness of the importance of food safety standards.
The fast paced food service industry engages a large number of skilled and unskilled personnel in a labor-intensive environment. The consequent difficulties of recruitment have been addressed by the program with benefit extended to more than 15,000 consumers in China. Seven hundred or more industry personnel will undergo training in areas such as personal hygiene, proper equipment and facility operation, cleaning, disinfection and pest control techniques.
Ecolab stepped into the Chinese market in 1987 with innovative solutions in support of China’s food-related businesses. Earlier in 2011, Ecolab played an important role in implementation of key government regulations and fundamental safeguards by SFDAIED.
Although its competitors like Clorox (CLX) and Church & Dwight (CHD) have significant presence in the Chinese market, Ecolab’s social commitment in China remains unique. The company’s efforts have also been recognized by the Chinese authorities, as reflected by the various awards it has received in recent times.
