Alpha Technologies Announces New Power Solutions to Help Wireless Carriers Upgrade to LTE

PR Newswire

VANCOUVER, B.C., May 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Alpha Technologies Ltd., the power behind the evolution of wireless networks, today announced the release of two new products enabling wireless carriers to simplify the transition to 3G and LTE networks. The products enable the continued deployment of both 24V and 48V radios at cell sites without requiring the overhaul of existing power plants. The new products will be displayed at the International CTIA WIRELESS 2012 taking place at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, on May 8-10, 2012 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

“For service providers with 24 volt networks, the need to support both 24V and 48V networks simultaneously is inevitable,” said Mike Burkhalter, Vice President of US Telecom Sales at Alpha. “A major objective is to avoid parallel power plants at the cell site, with each plant supported by its own battery backup system. Because of Alpha’s development of high power switchmode DC-DC converter modules, carriers can now use the existing 24V plant and batteries to power both the old and new generation radios. Our new product not only supplies the 48V power for the new radios, but also includes its own distribution system that connects directly to the new equipment.”

The CXPS 24-48-i Converter System enables wireless service providers to add new 48V powered LTE equipment, while still using the existing 24V battery plant. The system is a complete integrated 24Vdc to 48Vdc converter system that includes the advanced Cordex CXCI controller along with up to four 2kW converter modules. The system provides front access for DC distribution and site controller connections, and provides 18 distribution positions. For more information, visit www.alpha.ca/cxps-24-48-i.

The newest addition to Alpha’s growing portfolio of advanced DC power systems, the CXPS-M 1200 offers dual 48V/24V capabilities. It provides enough current to power both new and legacy wireless base stations at the same time. The compact, front access design makes it easy to use and easy to transition once the site converts fully to 48V operation. For more information, visit www.alpha.ca/cxps-m-series.
