Amdocs Ltd. (DOX), the global leader of developing software for customer experience systems, has recently won a major contract in Europe. Virgin Media Inc. (VMED), a leading integrated pay-TV and telecom operator in the U.K., has selected Amdocs to revamp its network inventory management system. Amdocs will deploy it state-of-the-art OSS inventory solutions for improving network design, planning, and assurance level of Virgin Media. However, the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Amdocs offers integrated customer management systems, which is essential for carriers in order to prevent customer churn. Virgin Media will be able to centralize and integrate its VPNs, switches and ports in its inventory management systems to provide accurate, real-time inventory data in a central location.
Currently, Europe is economically most volatile, and therefore this contract is expected become extremely profitable for Amdocs. Several telecom customer experience and billing software developers are concerned about this region as macro-economic volatility may dampen the momentum of large scale telecom and cable TV transformational projects. This, in turn, may also reduce the demand for telecom managed services.
Virgin Media is a leading digital entertainment service provider in the U.K. The company is the country’s first integrated quad-play service provider offering broadband, pay-TV, fixed-line phone, and wireless services. Currently, Virgin Media is the sole telecom operator in the U.K with a nationwide fiber-optic layout. In the previous quarter, the company’s quad-play penetration rate climbed 13.7% year over year.
Amdocs has the largest customer base and broadest product line in the industry, including a full suite of end-to-end solutions for both Business Support Systems (BSS) and Operations Support Systems (OSS).Last month, Amdocs also won a new transformation contract from Globe Telecom of Philippines and two major BSS transformation contracts in Europe.
