Dillard's Inc. (DDS) reported a growth of 3.0% in same-store sales for the five-week period ended October 1, 2011. Merchandise sales for the period increased 1.9% to $542.5 million compared with $532.3 million in the five-week period ended October 2, 2010. Total sales for the period increased 2.0% from the prior-year period.
Sales in the Central region were consistent with the average total company sales trend, while it was below the trend in the Eastern and Western regions.
Comparable store sales for the thirty five-week period ended October 1, 2011 increased 4% while total sales surged 3.0%. Merchandise sales jumped 3.2% to $3,869.6 million from $3,749.6 million in the prior-year period.
Kohl's Corporation (KSS), which competes with Dillard's, reported a negative 4.1% growth in September same-store sales, with total sales increasing 5.8%. Another peer, J.C. Penney Company Inc. (JCP), reported a decline of 0.6% in same-store sales with total sales falling 3.6%. Same-store sales of another competitor Macy's Inc. (M) increased 4.9% while total sales climbed 5.3%.
