America’s largest motor club demonstrates leadership in electric vehicle industry once again with installation of charging station at national office
HEATHROW, Fla., Sept. 27, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Today, AAA launched the second phase of their industry-leading electric vehicle initiative with the installation of a charging station at the AAA National office. The station is a Level II, 240 volt unit that will allow electric vehicle owners to “top off” their vehicle’s charge and can accommodate two cars simultaneously. Access to the charging station is free and available 24 hours a day to AAA members and the general public.
AAA’s National office also houses a branch office of AAA Auto Club South – partner in the installation of the charging station.
“AAA has been a leader in addressing the needs of motorists for more than a century, and the installation of a charging station at our national office continues that tradition,” said Marshall L. Doney, AAA Automotive Vice President. “We are proud to support the burgeoning electric vehicle industry and alleviate some ‘range anxiety,’ first on the roadside and now at our headquarters office.”
During a news conference at the Plug-In 2011 Conference & Exposition in July, AAA announced the first phase of their electric vehicle initiative with the unveiling of a prototype mobile electric vehicle charging truck with the capability to provide roadside rescue charging. The pilot program’s phased rollout in six metropolitan areas across the U.S., including Portland (Ore.), Seattle, the San Francisco Bay area, Los Angeles, Knoxville (Tenn.) and the Tampa Bay area, is currently underway.
As North America‘s largest motoring and leisure travel organization, AAA provides more than 52 million members with travel, insurance, financial and automotive-related services. Since its founding in 1902, the not-for-profit, fully tax-paying AAA has been a leader and advocate for the safety and security of all travelers. AAA clubs can be visited on the Internet at AAA.com.
