Lockheed Martin Corporation (LMT) received a contract from the U.S. Air Force worth $791 million to provide Information Technology (“IT”) related services on the Global Combat Support System program (“GCSS”) of the Air Force (“AF”).
The current contract entails support for a three-year period besides four one-year options. The contact calls upon the company to ensure proper operations and sustainment of the enterprise infrastructure; deliver the infrastructure, data services, and warfighter mission capabilities; and further the evolution of Air Force information technology architecture.
The company will complete the majority of work at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama, with some minor project work to be done at Air Force bases in Utah, Ohio and New York.
Lockheed is associated with the GCSS Air Force program for more than a decade and a half. The services provided include a single point of entry to mission applications, information and collaboration tools.
The GCSS-AF program, jointly developed by Lockheed and the Air Force, has revolutionized the latter’s operations by integrating 400 applications and data from finance, logistics and personnel systems into one enterprise. The integration of operations enables the Air Force to determine the availability of resources to handle threats and also to maintain the highest level of mission preparedness and deploy unit when necessary.
Lockheed's Information Systems & Global Solutions segment will be completing this task. In the most recent quarter this segment contributed 20.4% to the total revenue of the company with a backlog at quarter end of $8.6 billion.
Lockheed currently retains a Zacks #3 Rank, which translates into a short-term Hold rating. The company primarily competes with The Boeing Co. (BA), Northrop Grumman Corporation (NOC) and Raytheon Co. (RTN), all of which presently have a Zacks #3 Rank (short term Hold).
Based in Bethesda, Maryland, Lockheed Martin is a global security company that is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services.
