BRENTWOOD, Tenn., June 3, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Officials with American Physician Partners (APP), a leader in emergency medicine, hospitalist and intensivist management services, are pleased to announce the acquisition of Capital Emergency Physicians (CEP), a long-standing emergency department management company based in Jackson, Mississippi.

CEP’s 8 physicians and 24 advanced practice clinicians care for approximately 51,000 emergency department patients annually at Merit Health River Oaks, a Level III Trauma Center in Flowood, Mississippi; and Merit Health Madison, a Level IV Trauma Center, in Canton, Mississippi. Both facilities are part of Merit Health Network.

The group’s four owners Nathan McIntosh, MD; Justin Daniels, MD; Patrick Ferriss, MD, and Trey Nichols, MD, began providing emergency department management services to River Oaks in 2013 and were asked to assume the Madison program in 2016 as a result of their track record for excellent performance. CEP will bring experience in the development telemedicine programs to APP, helping to improve access to and quality of care for patients while controlling healthcare costs.

“American Physician Partners is excited to expand upon our existing relationship with Merit Health, now providing emergency department management services to eight of their facilities throughout Mississippi,” said John Rutledge, president and CEO of American Physician Partners. “We are pleased to add another metric-driven, patient-focused group to our company and to build upon our growing expertise with trauma centers. We look forward to working together to continue to serve Merit Health, and the Canton and Flowood communities.”

“We were impressed with American Physician Partners’ strong relationship with Merit Health in the Mississippi market and their reputation for improving emergency department metric performance,” said Nathan McIntosh, MD, CEP co-founder and emergency department medical director of Merit Health River Oaks. “Sharing very similar values and cultures, we decided to partner with APP due to their patient-focused, physician-centric model. We look forward to continuing to serve our patients and hospital partners with expanded support and resources.”
