Dolby Laboratories, Inc. DLB recently announced that it has collaborated with Chinese technology behemoth Lenovo Group to introduce its revolutionary audio and visual features in the latter’s Yoga C930 laptop. The strategic move will mark the introduction of such features for the first time ever to give a new dimension to the audio-visual experience of the user.
The company will add Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos customized speaker system to the laptop to usher in cinema-inspired HDR imaging technology and immersive audio feel. The advanced Rotating Sound Bar and innovative hinge design developed in close partnership by the experts of both the companies give the laptop a unique competitive advantage over other variants available in the market.
The Dolby Vision laser projection system leverages state-of-the-art optics and image processing facilities to deliver unrivalled dynamic range with enhanced color technology and a contrast ratio. This produces strikingly vivid and realistic images, making viewers feel more connected to the movie settings. On the other hand, the Dolby Atmos immersive audio technology helps to boost sound clarity, moving sound around audience in three-dimensional space to get the real-life feeling of any action sequence. The Dolby Atmos speaker system will further enrich the sound with richness, depth and precision qualities.
In order to capitalize on such rich features, Lenovo has decided to incorporate Dolby technologies in some of its future products that are in the production lineup. These include ThinkPad X1 Extreme featuring Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, Yoga S730 featuring Dolby Vision (pending a software update) and Dolby Atmos Speaker System, and Yoga Book C930 featuring Dolby Atmos.
The company has outperformed the industry in the past year with an average return of 38.8% compared with 27.7% rise for the latter. Dolby’s long-term growth strategy stands on three pillars, namely advancing the science of sight and sound, providing creative solutions and delivering superior experiences. Successful execution in each of these areas has led to decent growth over the past few quarters. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for fiscal 2018 earnings has moved up from 99 cents in March to $2.93 at present, representing bullish investor sentiments on the company.
