Mellanox Introduces Open Hyper-Scalable Enterprise Framework

Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. MLNX recently launched the Mellanox Hyper-scalable Enterprise Framework for enterprise and private cloud data centers. The company claims it to be industry’s first scalable, open framework.

The new framework will enable the organizations to develop a 25G, 50G and 100G hyperscale Ethernet driven network.

Mellanox’s comprehensive suite comprises five Spectrum SN2100 ethernet switches delivering low latency, zero packet loss, LinkX Cables and optics, and ConnectX network interface cards.

Mellanox Hyper-scalable Enterprise Framework promises to deliver high performance and open networking solution to the data center architects. The flexibility and scalability will aid the users achieve operational efficiency.

The converged network on a single Ethernet storage integrated fabric is designed to support communications and compute services.

The enterprise adopting the new infrastructure can benefit from hyper-scalabilities ensured through its virtual network acceleration and software defined everything (“SDX”) capabilities.

The architecture supports software defined storage solutions including VSAN, Red Hat’s RHT Ceph and Gluster, and Micosoft’s MSFT Storage Spaces Direct.

Notably, Nutanix NTNX is the software partner of Mellanox enabling the network’s software operations.

The new comprehensive framework’s networking solutions is fully integrated with cloud platforms like Open Stack distributions including Red Hat Open Stack Platform. Azure Stack and vSphere are among other well known cloud platforms with which networking solutions are fully integrated.

We believe the rich features will aid Mellanox expand its market share. Additionally, the package comes with one year technical support and warranty.

Increasing Spending on Data Center Framework Bodes Well

According to an article that quoted a Synergy Research report, 70% of total hyperscale capital expenditure of $27 billion in first quarter of 2018 was incurred by the top 5, namely Amazon, Apple, Google, Microsoft and Facebook. We note that the high-margin cloud businesses continue to be the primary growth driver for the top 5.

Additionally, per a Gartner report, spending on “Data Center Systems” is projected to reach $179 billion in 2018 from $178 billion in 2017 representing a CAGR of 0.6%.

We believe the new framework makes Mellanox well poised to capitalize on the growth opportunity.
