Google Betters Data Management, Launches My Activity Site

Zacks

Alphabet Inc. GOOGL has decided to empower its users with improved data management and ad blocking options across all devices that they use for Google’s search engine or other services.

The company’s new privacy tool will enable users to decide whether they want to see certain ads on a particular device and block those on others. You no longer need to make separate requests for each individual device.

The company has put the new features into action from Tuesday but these will take a few more weeks to reach all users.

My Activity

This new feature enables users to remove search records and list of watched YouTube videos from a single location without visiting different websites or apps any more.

Google has not yet revealed its plans about a broader rollout. More information on the upgrades is available on the Google Support site.

My Account

Last year, the company launched the “My Account” hub to offer users more privacy and security controls.

With the added features, users now have the option to allow Google to store their browsing histories in “My Account”, thereby making personal data management more streamlined.

Until now, Google had been storing personal data in different pockets thereby making data management more cumbersome for users.

Our Take

It appears that with the new move, the company has taken another step toward ensuring that users do not face privacy invasion issues.

We will have to wait and see if these new upgrades can help rebuild its reputation, which has taken a hit as a result of legal troubles across practically all continents.

Apart from being a huge drain on resources, these have earned it a bad name on privacy concerns, anti-competitive concerns, patent infringements and what have you.

At present, Google has a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell). Some better-ranked stocks worth considering are Blue Calypso, Inc. BCYP, Internap Corporation INAP and Yirendai Ltd. YRD, each carrying a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
