General Motors Company GM announced an investment worth $290 million in its Bowling Green Assembly plant to improve and revamp the facility’s vehicle assembly operations with new technologies and processes. Of the total new investment, $153 million will be utilized for an application to participate in the Kentucky Business Incentive.
General Motors will start the upgrade from this summer. These improvements will help enhance the quality of vehicles produced.
The automaker is focused on investments toward making the manufacturing systems more flexible. This investment in the Bowling Green Assembly plant is in addition to the $439 million investment for the construction and startup of a new paint shop.
Over the years, General Motors has been committed to investing in southcentral Kentucky. The automaker’s continuous investments in the state also help boost its economy.
The Bowling Green Assembly plant in Kentucky was established in 1981. The facility mainly produces the Chevrolet Corvette. The plants in Flint, MI and St. Louis also produce the Corvette.
Corvette is a sports car produced under the Chevrolet brand. Chevrolet is one of the world's largest brands. General Motors sells around 4 million cars and trucks per year under this brand in 115 countries. Chevrolet vehicles are famous for their fuel efficiency, performance, design, passive and active safety features, and user-friendly technology.
General Motors is focused on investment in innovative technologies and vehicles which should provide sustained growth while maximizing shareholder value. In Apr 2016, the company announced an investment of $788.7 million in the Spring Hill manufacturing plant. The investment will be utilized for an all-new, high-efficiency engine program, and other projects which will modernize the vehicle programs at the plant. Simultaneously, it announced a $118 million investment in the Bay City Powertrain facility.
