Twitter (TWTR) Partners with Lookup and Reliance in India

In a bid to enhance its services in India, Twitter, Inc. TWTR recently struck a partnership deal with India-based chat app – Lookup. Users in the country can now tweet on @lookuplite to get information and also make purchases (and book appointments) from a range of retail services.

Twitter has been integrated into Lookup (through its application program interface and listening tools) which will help local businesses widen reach and boost user base. On the other hand, users will be able to make transactions without leaving the micro-blogging platform.

Twitter has gone a little farther and is providing free delivery to shoppers; however, the offer stands only for this holiday season. Notably, the service is now available in four major Indian cities, namely, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai and Pune.

Meanwhile, Twitter has also collaborated with a prominent communications provider in India – Reliance Mobile. The entities have together launched #SmartCare on Twitter which will enable users to manage their mobile accounts. In fact, users will have to just tweet to perform everyday tasks like bill payment, recharge, information about best deals and tracking both voice and data usage.

Previously, the likes of Kotak Mahindra Bank and Jet Airways in India had adopted Twitter’s platform to enhance services.

Of late, India has been gaining importance in the tech space, especially for social media companies. The country represents the third-largest Internet user base after China and the U.S. Moreover, despite the low internet penetration rates, the number of Internet users in the country is likely to surpass the 400 million mark by 20015-end, according to a Forbes report.

Therefore the latest collaborations in India are likely to be positive for this Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) company. Some other tech behemoths that have recently strengthened their presence in the country include Facebook FB, Alphabet’s GOOGL Google and Amazon.com Inc. AMZN, among others.
