Alcatel-Lucent ALU is all set to deploy its portfolio of IP core routing and Carrier software-defined networking technology to help Italy-based operator Telecom Italia’s TIM optimize its cloud services.
TIM is undergoing a major transformation to create “Next Generation Core Network” in order to support greater service agility. To support TIM’s network modernization, Alcatel-Lucent is providing 7950 Extensible Routing System (XRS) IP Core Router portfolio, 1830 Photonic Service Switch to enable 100G agile optical networking technology, 5620 Service Aware Manager and SDN-based Network Services Platform.
These technologies will assist TIM in enhancing cost-effectiveness, launching new services and improving network operations through high-quality on-demand service experience. The superior network is expected to become fully operational by the end of 2016.
Alcatel-Lucent, with a leadership position in the structurally growing optics and IP Routing markets, is well poised to gain from rising adaptation of wireline infrastructure. Consequently, the company’s Core Networking segment continues to thrive, registering year-over-year growth of over 11% in third-quarter 2015.
All three sub-segments of Alcatel-Lucent – IP Routing, IP Transport and IP Platforms – enjoyed robust growth with continued strong performance in Europe, the Middle East and Africa ("EMEA") and Caribbean and Latin America Region ("CALA"). Also, the company’s Core Networking segment has been winning several significant deals. While IP Routing sub-segment’s 7950 XRS IP Core router won 6 new contracts; Virtualized Service Router received 15 and Nuage Networks secured 5 contracts in the quarter.
