Apollo Education Group, Inc.’s APOL, under its flagship school, University of Phoenix (UOP), introduced a new career-oriented program in Correctional Program Support Services at its Central Valley Campus in Fresno, CA.

Interested candidates will be offered the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree program that will improve their understanding of mental health, rehabilitation and recidivism. The program was designed by University of Phoenix College of Security and Criminal Justice, and experts of corrections industry subject matter. The program involves several domains of institutional and community corrections through a multidisciplinary approach to psychology, human services, behavioral and criminal justice theories.

Central Valley houses several correctional facilities and as such there is huge demand for trained professionals who can deal with rehabilitation issues and the possibility of a relapse into criminal behavior. These new programs are meant to appeal to home inmates who are seeking to build a career in Security and Criminal Justice.

Introduction of the new program should contribute to UOP’s top line, which was being hurt by consistently low enrollment levels. Nevertheless, the company has undertaken several initiatives to transform UOP into a “smaller, but better performing” university.

Meanwhile, Apollo Education’s international division, Apollo Global, Inc. has shown impressive growth in fiscal 2014 and 2015. Earlier this month, Apollo Global announced the acquisition of Germany-based education provider, Career Partner GmbH (CPG), for about $105 million. Career Partner is a provider of human resource development and private higher education.

Apollo Education Group carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
