T-Mobile Comes Up with Free Hulu Offer for Verizon Users

Zacks

T-Mobile US, Inc. TMUS is leaving no stone unturned to maintain its third highest position in the U.S. wireless market as well as to counter competition.

The carrier kicked off the holiday season with the launch of – Un-carrier Unwrapped – in November wherein it is offering rewarding schemes to all customers.

Yesterday, the company announced another attractive offer, this time to entice U.S. telecom behemoth Verizon Communications Inc.’s VZ customers. T-Mobile is offering Verizon customers, premium Hulu services free of charge for a year, provided they switch to its network.

Hulu offers the latest episodes from popular TV shows, movies, documentaries and more. Interestingly, the service costs $8 per month or $12 with no commercials which is now being offered for free for a limited period (Dec 11–17) and requires no device trade-in.

Additionally, T-Mobile is offering switchers up to a 50% discount on all in-store accessories such as smartwatches, Bluetooth speakers, headphones and wearables.

Further, Verizon customers can merge the offer with T-Mobile's Carrier Freedom promotion, which provides up to $650 per line toward a balance outstanding or to pay off early termination fees with an eligible device trade-in.

Meanwhile, only recently, T-Mobile allowed its customers to stream videos on mobile devices for free. The ‘Binge On’ service, as touted by the company, provides access to various streaming services. Thus, along with free premium service, customers can stream unlimited Hulu videos under the “Binge On” program.

Other Promotional Offers

The carrier first began by giving its Simple Choice customers three full months of unlimited LTE data, at no additional charge.

Thereby, T-Mobile announced a new promotion for Sprint Corp. S customers entailing a substantial $200 credit per line offering, for switching to T-Mobile’s wireless service.

Thirdly, the carrier tempted AT&T, Inc. T customers to switch, by making aggressive iPhone offers. T-Mobile is offering AT&T customers 128GB iPhone 6s for the price of a 16GB model − a massive $200 value – if they made the switch.

To Conclude

T-Mobile's bid to entice rival carriers' customers reflects the cutthroat competition that is typical of the U.S. cellular market, leaving little scope for new subscriber growth. Thereby, the dominant players are forced to look for growth by poaching each other's existing subscribers.

We believe that the company’ strategy of offering lucrative promotion schemes should bear fruit this holiday season and aid in drawing more customers thereby lending an edge over other major U.S. wireless carriers.

T-Mobile currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
