Apple Inc. AAPL has yet another update for its Apple TV with the release of the latest tvOS 9.1 (last month the company had released tvOS 9.0.1).
This time it brings along the much awaited Siri support for controlling Apple Music. In fact, Apple has made the feature available even before the stipulated time (earlier the company had said that itexpects to roll out Siri support in early 2016).
Additionally, the software update makes the device compatible with Apple’s Remote app as well. People can now use an iOS device keyboard for text input (like user Id or password), which is much easier than using the Siri Remote for the same. Furthermore, users with the watchOS 2.1 version (which was also released yesterday) of Apple Watch can also use the Remote app as a D-pad (directional pad) for Apple TV.
Apart from tvOS 9.1 and watchOS 2.1, the company also released the iOS 9.2 software update.
Apple continuously updates its software platforms to drive replacement and first-time sales.We believe that frequent updates and new services will not only help Apple to maintain its customer base but also expand its market share.
Separately, according to media reports, Apple has dropped its plans for Apple TV subscription service. As per CBS Corporation’s CBS chief Leslie Moonves, "They've had conversations on it, and I think they pressed the hold button" while talking about Apple’s plans for bringing live streaming services. Moonves also said that Apple was in talks with CBS for enabling customers to form their own bundle of cable channels through the live streamingof television straight to the box.
