Paints and coatings maker The Valspar Corporation VAL has introduced two new specialty products − Furniture Paint and Cabinet Enamel − to prevent furniture from being discarded due to petty blemishes such as watermarks, dings and scratches. Furniture Paint and Cabinet Enamel are available at Lowe's stores nationwide.
The Furniture paint by Valspar is an oil-enriched satin finish paint which delivers smooth and durable coverage, making coated surfaces resistant to spills, scuffs, stains and discoloration caused by moisture. The paint even sticks on to laminated surfaces and requires minimal priming and sanding, which render it suitable for furniture used both indoors and outdoors. A minimum of two coats are advised for best results.
The Cabinet paint by Valspar is useful for bathroom and kitchen cabinets which are usually exposed to frequent cleaning and steam. The paint, which has a non-yellowing formulation, comes in a semi-gloss finish and sticks on to most surfaces. Also, it has minimal priming and sanding requirements. An additional benefit of this paint is that it dries to a smooth factory-finish quality owing to which doors and drawers do not stick.
According to Russ Neale, Director of Product Management and Innovation at Valspar, the paints are economical and easy to use, and they can help revive and renew an existing piece of furniture which would otherwise be disposed off. Moreover, both the paints need very little preparation time and coated surfaces require minimal maintenance, thus proving useful for customers who tackle furniture and cabinet makeovers on their own.
Additionally, Valspar has launched a series of "Rehab Project" videos, available online at Valspar Rehab Project. These will help customers take on varieties of mini-makeovers on their own using the new paints over the time frame of a weekend. These projects are also complemented by “recipe cards” which demonstrate the painting details and offer guidance related to the required supplies and cleanup before the painting process begins.
