Yum! Brands, Inc.’s YUM recently announced the launch of a virtual flagship restaurant and website, which can be accessed through mobile devices as well as PCs. Known as ta.co, the site allows users to try out certain menu combinations, customize their food, as well as order and pay in advance.
The trendy design and host of information available on the site should appeal to the millenials, a large part of the brand’s customers. The most important feature of the website — online ordering — will lessen waiting time as guests who pre-order can skip the line at the restaurant while picking up the items.
The site allows diners to customize every meal and save the orders. Further, the smart search feature offers swift suggestions to help users place orders quickly. ta.co also features a nutrition calculator offering ingredient information, to cater to health-conscious guests.
In fact, Taco Bell is using technology extensively to connect to the millenials. The company has formed a Digital Innovation & On Demand team responsible for the technological aspects of the business. The mobile app developed by this team has been an immense hit, with 3.7 million downloads and check growth of 30% since then.
Taco Bell is not the only quick service restaurant using technology to survive in an intensely competitive sector. In fact, industry majors like McDonald's Corp. MCD, Domino's Pizza, Inc. DPZ and Starbucks Corp. SBUX are also offering mobile ordering support through their respective apps. The surge in smartphone mobile ordering and payment applications is bringing in a major part of these restaurateurs’ revenues.
Yum! currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
