TASER International Inc. TASR disclosed that it has won an order for 2000 Axon Flex body cameras powered by its Axon Signal technology from the Memphis Police Department.
The order includes a five-year subscription to Evidence.com. Although this order was received in the third quarter of 2015, its shipping is expected in the third and fourth quarters of 2015.
Axon Flex body cameras will keep a detailed record of every police incident, which is expected to create transparency between the law enforcement agency and the community, thereby promoting a healthy relationship. Axon Signal, on the other hand, ensures automatic activation of all cameras in range, so that user error is minimized.
Growing demand for Axon body cameras and Evidence.com reflects law enforcement agencies’ shift in focus toward accountability and trust.
Though small in size, Axon cameras are conveniently visible and can be attached to everyday accessories such as uniforms, sunglasses, cap, shirt collar or a head mount. The camera also features a wider angle of view. Moreover, the Retina Low-Light technology enhances night vision. An accompanying pocketsize battery pack ensures uninterrupted recording through an entire shift.
Earlier this month, Justice Department's Bureau of Justice Assistance announced that 73 law enforcement agencies throughout the country will receive federal grants worth $20 million to fund the purchase and use of body cameras. An estimated 21,000 body-worn cameras can be purchased with the help of these grants.
In Aug 2015, TASER has won orders for 429 Axon Flex body cameras from the Wichita Police Department. It has also won orders from other departments such as Brownsville Police Department, Parker Police Department, White Plains Police Department, Elkton Police Department, Lincolnton Police Department, Barberton Police Department and Takoma Park Police Department.
