Amazon.com Inc.’s AMZN film production division, Amazon Studios, gave the go-ahead to the third season of its original series — Transparent — which will be available to Prime members in 2016.

The half-hour comedy-drama series revolves around a Los Angeles family and deals with themes like identity, sex and love. The series has been written, directed and executive produced by Jill Soloway, who also signed a deal with Amazon Studios to exclusively develop television projects for Amazon Prime.

Amazon is still celebrating its recent stint at the Golden Globe, where Transparent won the award in the category of best musical or comedy TV series and best actor for Jeffery Tambor.

Prime members can view the first season of Transparent on Amazon Instant Video apps for TVs, other connected and mobile devices for free. The second season will be offered this fall in the U.S., Germany and the UK exclusively for Amazon Prime members through Prime Instant Video. The series will begin production next week in Los Angeles.

Additionally, Amazon Studio has eight original series lined up to be debuted this year and early next year. These include comedy, drama and docu-series pilots and a few kids’ series such as Wishenpoof!, Just Add Magic, and The Stinky & Dirty Show.

Increasing popularity of tablets, smartphones and connected TVs has enhanced online-video viewing and continues to attract consumers as well as leading technology companies like Google. Therefore, Amazon is leaving no stone unturned to boost its digital media sales and attract new viewers by adding kids’ series to its content line-up and making Prime Instant video service more attractive.

Amazon is one of the major players in an extremely fast-growing market. In the first quarter of 2015, the company’s revenues of $22.72 billion came within its guided range and just ahead of the Zacks Consensus Estimate. Both product and service sales grew strongly from the year-ago quarter and contributed 75% and 25%, respectively, to total revenue.
