Responding to increased corporate demand, low-cost carrier JetBlue Airways Corporation JBLU announced that it will be offering its premium service (Mint) on select routes from Boston starting next year.
While the premium service will be made available on flights from Boston to San Francisco from Mar 2016, the premium seats will be added to Boston-Los Angeles flights from the fall of next year. The carrier will operate a maximum of three roundtrips on each route per day.
Going by the success of its Mint service, which was launched in 2013, JetBlue has also decided to introduce the service on its Boston-Barbados flights on a seasonal basis from Mar 2016. Prior to the introduction of its Mint service, JetBlue offered only coach-class seats to its customers. Customers availing JetBlue’s premium service have access to the comfort of lie-flat beds, private suites, 15-inch video screens in addition to other special amenities.
JetBlue’s Mint service has gained tremendous popularity, particularly among the corporate class, since it was launched mainly because of its affordability compared to the charge on business travel imposed by its peers. Mint’s popularity can be gauged from the tremendous demand for the premium service on transcontinental flights connecting New York and Los Angeles/San Francisco, where it is currently operational.
In keeping with its expansion plans, JetBlue has decided to introduce non-stop flights to Nashville from Boston from Spring 2016. Moreover, the carrier will introduce flights connecting Nashville and Fort Lauderdale next year. We are impressed by the carrier’s decision to expand its premium service as well as add new routes, targeted toward growth.
