The Coca-Cola Company KO recently reached a new milestone as it unveiled the first PET plastic bottle made from plants at the World Expo in Milan. PET plastic bottle is made under the company’s PlantBottle packaging initiative. Made from renewable plant materials, this PlantBottle packaging is a first of its kind from Coca-Cola company’s packaging portfolio.
PlantBottle packaging is one of the many initiatives taken by the company. Launched for the first time in 2009, PlantBottle packaging uses a unique technology through which natural sugar in plants is converted to ingredients used for manufacturing plastic bottles. This fully recyclable plastic bottle is manufactured from 30% of plant materials, which includes sugarcane and waste from the sugarcane manufacturing process. These plant bottles look identical to the ones made from fossil fuels, in terms of look, functions and can even be recycled like traditional plastic bottles. However, the best part is that PlantBottle it has a minimal impact on the planet and its resources.
Coca-Cola enjoys sound long-term fundamentals given its global reach, strong brand power, expanding international presence, a solid global bottling network and an impressive cash position. In addition to brand innovation and extension, Coca Cola focuses on breakthroughs in equipment, packaging and routes-to-market. The company has aggressive cost-cutting and strategic initiatives in place to drive faster growth in 2015. However, these would take time to deliver the desired results amid challenging global macro conditions and significant changes at the company.
Coca-Cola Company carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Some better-ranked beverage stocks are The WhiteWave Foods Company WWAV, True Drinks Holdings, Inc. TRUU and Cott Corporation COT, all of them holding a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
