Ericsson ERIC recently penned a 7-year playout services contract with one of the leading global public service broadcasters – BBC. The deal signifies Ericsson’s technical expertise in handling sophisticated and dynamic media operations.
As per the contract, Ericsson will provide playout and media management services to BBC’s interactive Red Button service and channel portfolio in the UK such as BBC One, BBC Two and CBBC. The playout services, in particular, entail the technology and operations offering to aid broadcasters in providing programs to audiences via network, linear television networks. Apart from this, Ericsson will also provide its playout and media management services for BBC World News – the international news channel of BBC – across over 200 countries, globally.
The deal strengthens Ericsson’s long-time relationship with BBC. On earlier occasions, Ericsson has acquired BBC’s Red Bee Media operations and has been offering numerous broadcast and media services to the BBC comprising interactive services, access services and metadata.
As a matter of fact, Ericsson has been focusing on strengthening its foothold in the broadcasting and media industry and hence, has extended its technology to broadcasters for merging video and mobility. In relation to this, last month, Ericsson won a contract from Tata Sky – India's leading direct-to-home (“DTH”) operator – to improve the experience of Indian TV viewers.
Encouragingly, the company currently offers top-class extensive solutions such as Media Delivery Network, Ericsson Mediaroom and Cloud DVR and has largely contributed towards advancement of the television over decades. With such an offering, Ericsson has been assisting several renowned and large broadcasters, content owners and TV service providers in accelerating their transformation into the hyper-connected society.
Ericsson currently carries a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell). Better-ranked wireless equipment stocks include Juniper Networks, Inc. JNPR, PCTEL, Inc. PCTI and Polycom, Inc. PLCM. While Juniper Networks sports a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), PCTEL and Polycom hold a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
