Fluidigm Corporation FLDM recently announced that it will divulge the features of its new automated library preparation application for targeted sequencing, optimized for its Juno system, at the upcoming European Human Genetics Conference to be held in Glasgow, Scotland.
The manufacturer of technologies and life science tools expects to commercialize the application by the fourth quarter of 2015.
Juno system, released earlier this year, enables scientists prepare samples for various Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNP) genotyping applications. Scientists can process low-concentration DNA samples such as tissue samples, buccal swabs, blood, FFPE and polyploid organisms using the system.
The Juno system helps to complete SNP genotyping analyses of the samples in less than three hours. Libraries prepared on Fluidigm’s Juno system can be sequenced on any Illumina ILMN sequencer.
The new application for targeted sequencing is designed to support genomic coverage density of up to 5,000 targeted genomic loci per sample. This feature is particularly tempting, given that laboratories often demand such amount of genomic coverage density to screen comprehensive gene sets across large sample numbers, within a limited time frame.
The application will support both bulk DNA and whole-genome amplified (WGA) single-cell DNA inputs. The application also scores high in terms of cost-effectiveness.
We believe the addition of this new application will significantly enhance the prospects of Fluidigm’s Juno system. Notably, since its launch, the system has witnessed sturdy adoption. In the last reported quarter, higher placements of Juno system drove instrument revenues.
