Delta Air Lines (DAL) Adds Five New Routes from Seattle

Zacks

In sync with its capacity expansion plans, premium U.S. carrier Delta Air Lines DAL plans to initiate flights from the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to Boston, Orlando, Pasco, Wash and Victoria and British Columbia. Further, the carrier will extend its existing Bozeman, MT, service from the Seattle hub.

Notably, Victoria will be the latest addition to Delta’s network, subject to approval from the Canadian government. Delta will operate daily flights from Seattle to Orlando and Boston starting Dec 19, 2015 and Apr 4, 2016, respectively. Likewise, the company will run three daily flights from Seattle to Pasco and Victoria effective Nov 1, 2015 and Apr 4, 2016, respectively.

Delta will be operating Boeing 737-800 and 757-200 aircraft for servicing Boston and Orlando clients while 65-seat CRJ-700 jets will be used for Bozeman, Pasco and Victoria.

Of late, the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport has been gaining significant importance for Delta’s operations. The company has already invested $15 million to improve the facilities at the airport and plans to flag off nearly 128 fights from there to 36 locations.

Earlier, Delta had filed for regulatory approval to connect Orlando, FL and Sao Paulo, Brazil. The company also intends to introduce non-stop flights on the route effective Dec 19, 2015, following the authorization.

We believe that network expansion will not only drive air traffic for Delta but will also help the carrier gain greater market traction in Seattle in comparison to Alaska Air Group, Inc. ALK.

Delta currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Better-ranked stocks in the airline space include Ryanair Holdings plc RYAAY and SkyWest Inc. SKYW. Both these stocks sport a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).
