Ushering in good news for smartphone lovers, wireless service provider United States Cellular Corp. USM – a subsidiary of Telephone and Data Systems Inc. TDS – has announced pre-order and pricing details for LG's latest smartphone, G4.
U.S. Cellular will take pre-orders for G4 effective May 29, although the phone will be available at stores from around Jun 4. Interestingly, LG has promised a free 32 GB memory card, extra removable battery and battery charging cradle, particularly for customers who pre-order for the device or buy it before Jun 21.
Customers eager to get hold of the G4 can do so at zero upfront payment using U.S. Cellular's equipment installment option. Under this option, customers will have to make 20 monthly payments of $29.50 each for the Gold and Metallic Gray handsets and $30.50 for the Black Leather one. The installment amounts will be duly added to their monthly wireless bill.
The smartphone will also be available at a price of $199 with a two-year contract with the carrier. Moreover, customers can upgrade this device in 12 months by trading it in for an updated model, and decide to pay off the entire balance of their device whenever they wish for.
Apart from U.S. Cellular, G4 will also be available with most of the other carriers in the U.S. Customers with T-Mobile US TMUS, Sprint Corp. S and Verizon Communications VZ should be able to get the device from the first week of June.
U.S. Cellular is determined to offer the best wireless experience to its users by providing the latest innovative devices coupled with superior quality network and national coverage. We believe the G4 launch is a step forward in this direction. The company is optimistic about the growing demand for smartphones, which enjoy significant market penetration, supporting growth in data revenues.
In Apr 2015, U.S. Cellular started offering LG G Flex2 which has emerged as the most prominent smartphone at this year's International Consumer Electronics Show. Notably, U.S. Cellular was the second U.S. carrier to offer the G Flex2 after Sprint. However, while the company charged $149.99 for the device with a two-year contract, Sprint has been selling G Flex2 for $199.99 on contract.
In first-quarter 2015, smartphone sales remained strong for U.S. Cellular and represented 66.9% penetration among postpaid customers, up from 55.8% recorded in the year-ago quarter. However, the company operates in an intensely competitive wireless market. With this market becoming increasingly saturated, only time will tell whether LG G4 can rein in profits for telecom carriers.
U.S. Cellular currently has a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
