Microchip Unveils 2nd Generation Multizone Audio Technology

Zacks

Leading semiconductor manufacturer Microchip Technology Inc. MCHP unveiled its second generation multizone audio technology, along with a mobile application for use in whole-home-audio and multi-room applications based on the JukeBlox 4 platform.

The JB Multizone 2.0 feature facilitates strongly synchronized and highly robust audio streaming to multiple speakers in tandem with the JB App — a turnkey mobile app which enables easy setup and operation of the wireless speaker.

The whole-home audio and multi-room audio systems enable consumers to assemble speakers into a zone and play back a common audio stream. The advanced wireless networking technology allows consumers to form multiple zones, each with their own audio streams, thus delivering a robust whole home audio solution to users. Consumers can employ the JB App to create and modify zones, select audio sources and effortlessly connect the speaker to the local Wi-Fi network.

The JB Multizone 2.0 leverages sophisticated technology to decrease audio drops that are inherent in traditional Wi-Fi streaming applications. With Wi-Fi direct, users do not need to connect each speaker in a zone with the access point, thus removing usual issues like overloaded access points. Additionally, circumventing the access point decreases the consumed RF bandwidth by half — thus boosting streaming quality and allowing users to add more speakers in a zone.

Moreover, the addition of Wi-Fi Multimedia to Wi-Fi Direct diminishes source-to-zone speaker latency and packet loss, the effect being tightly synchronized audio playback with minimal audio drops.

The JB App allows OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to swiftly set up an entire whole-home-audio solution without needing to manage an app development project. OEMs have an option to use source code for custom app development, or they can simply rebrand the app and release it to consumers. The JB App source code supports both iOS and Android platforms.
