Delta Air Lines to Connect Cartagena, Medellin with Atlanta

Zacks

Airline behemoth Delta Air Lines, Inc.’s DAL has announced that it will introduce non-stop flights from its largest hub in Atlanta to the Colombian cities of Medellin and Cartagena from Dec 19, 2015. The addition of the new routes is aimed at bolstering Delta’s presence in Latin America. The new flights complement the carrier’s currently operational flights to Bogota from Atlanta and New York.

The Medellin-bound flight, scheduled to depart from Atlanta at 5.30 p.m., will take a little over four and a half hours. The return flight will take slightly longer. The Boeing Company’s BA 124-seater 737-700 aircraft will be used for the service. The Atlanta-Medellin route will serve to enhance connectivity to Barcelona, London and Madrid.

The Cartagena-bound flight, scheduled to depart from Atlanta at 9.45 a.m., will take a little over four hours. The return flight, again, will be of a slightly longer duration. Boeing’s 160 seater 737-800 aircraft will be used for the new service. The Atlanta-Cartagena service, which will be available thrice a week, seeks to ease flight access to the Caribbean region of Colombia and its coastal cities, thereby promoting holiday travel to these attractive destinations.

We note that Delta is not the first U.S. carrier looking to fly to Medellin and Cartagena. Low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines SAVE flies to both the Colombian cities from Fort Lauderdale. Another low-cost carrier, JetBlue Airways Corp. JBLU, also operates flights to the said Colombian cities.
