Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge: Pre-Orders About to Start

Ushering in good news for smartphone lovers, all major telecom companies have announced pre-order and pricing details for both Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 edge.

The launch of Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge at the Mobile World Congress has created quite a sensation. Most of the telecom companies including the likes of AT&T, Inc. T have decided to take pre-orders for both the smartphones from Mar 27, whereas Verizon Communications Inc. VZ will start taking orders on Apr 1, 2015. However, the phones will be available at stores from around Apr 10.

Pricing Details

For the smartphones, customers will have the option of selecting storage space out of 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB at AT&T stores. The company will be offering Galaxy S6 with 32 GB storage at $22.84 a month whereas it will be charging $27.17 per month for 32 GB Galaxy S6 edge. The company has only provided the pricing information for its AT&T Next service.

The variants of 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB Samsung Galaxy S6 will be offered by Verizon with prices starting at $199.99. This excludes the $50 mail in rebate available with new two-year contract or $24.99 a month for 2 years. Price for a 32 GB Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge begins at $299.99, which also includes the $50 mail in rebate. For instalment basis payments, the monthly instalments will be around $29.16 a month for a period of two years.

T-Mobile US, Inc. TMUS will offer the 32 GB Galaxy S6 at $28.33 a month for two years whereas 32 GB Galaxy S6 edge will be available for $32.49 a month. To sweeten the deal for customers, the company will not be charging any down payment and will also provide a year of free Netflix service.

Sprint Corporation S will be offering both the smartphones on its lease program. This policy will also include service. In order to use 32 GB Galaxy S6 customers will have to pay $80 per month whereas 32 GB Galaxy S6 edge will cost $85 for a month. Sprint customers can also avail a 64 GB and 128 GB option at an extra cost of $5 and $10 a month, respectively.

Our Take

With the wireless market becoming increasingly saturated, only time will tell how profitable the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge turns out to be for telecom carriers. However, the upcoming quarterly results will mirror the true financial picture of these carriers post the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 edge promotion, making actual gains and losses more vivid for the companies as well as for investors.
