Alcatel-Lucent, Chuan Wei Offer 100G Network in Cambodia

Alcatel-Lucent ALU, a pioneer provider of Internet Protocol (“IP”) networking, ultra-broadband access and cloud technology services, has joined forces with leading Cambodian Internet services provider, Chuan Wei, to deploy a 100 gigabit-per-second fiber-optic data network. This one-of-its-kind fiber optic networking project reflects the country’s attempt toward building a solid communication infrastructure to meet the growing demand for ultra-broadband access.

Powered by 1830 Photonic Service Switch (“PSS”) platform, Alcatel-Lucent’s agile optical networking integrates Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (“WDM”), Optical Transport Network (“OTN”) and Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching (“GMPLS”)/Automatically Switched Optical Network (“ASON”) to create a highly efficient and scalable 100G network. This network will boost Chuan Wei’s existing capacity and eventually allow the company to upgrade to 400G in the future.

Alcatel-Lucent’s profound knowledge of ultra-broadband access will help Chuan Wei to obtain cost-effective solutions. This, in turn, will assist the latter in accomplishing its long-term goals of providing the best fiber-optic networking and next-generation wireless services in Cambodia. Additionally, Alcatel-Lucent’s Dense Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (“DWDM”) will be used to connect a submarine cable landing station to strengthen the Cambodian operator’s communication infrastructure.

We believe this association will be beneficial for Alcatel-Lucent in the long run, as company sources confirm that Cambodia has recorded the highest data traffic growth in the entire Asia-Pacific region.

Also, the country has witnessed more than 7% annual economic growth of late, making it one of the most lucrative business destinations in South East Asia. Growth in trade, coupled with a thriving tourism industry, necessitates enhanced network capacity for the country. This indicates bright growth prospects for Alcatel-Lucent in the future.
