Ford Reports 1.9% Decline in US Sales Volume in February

Ford Motor Co. F reported a 1.9% decline in sales in the U.S. to 180,383 units in Feb 2015. Brand-wise, the automaker’s Ford brand’s sales fell 1.7% to 174,219 units in the month. Meanwhile, the Lincoln brand reported a 7.5% decline in sales to 6,164 units.

Sales of cars and utility vehicles fell 8.1% and 2.3% to 56,081 and 54,420 units, respectively. However, Ford’s truck sales increased 4% in February, driven by a 24.6% surge in sales of the Transit Connect and an 18.7% rise in sales of heavy trucks. Retail sales of the F-series fell 1.2% in February, although the same increased 7% year to date.

Among cars, Ford Focus and Fusion were the most popular during the month. However, both recorded a year-over-year decline in sales.

Among utility vehicles, Ford Escape led in terms of popularity despite a 9.6% fall. Ford Explorer emerged as the second-most popular utility vehicle in February with a 31.8% surge in sales. This is Ford Explorer’s best February sales volume since 2006.

Ford Mustang was the company’s sole car that reported higher sales during the month. Sales of this iconic car surged 31.9% to 8,454 units in February, making it the Mustang’s best February sales since 2007. Since the launch of the new Mustang model, it has been the highest-selling sports car in America.

Sales of Ford brand cars fell 6.2% to 53,688 units while that of Ford brand utility vehicles fell 4.2% to 50,649 units in Feb 2015. Meanwhile, the Lincoln brand cars’ sales fell 37.3% to 2,393 units, while Lincoln utility vehicles witnessed a 32.5% surge in sales to 3,771 units.
