CDTI: Paris, France to control diesel truck entry into the city due to pollution

Zacks

The mayor of Paris has proposed a ban on most diesel engined vehicles from the city by 2020 in order to lower air pollution.

Buses and trucks will be banned from the city first, followed by all diesel vehicles made before 2011.

Paris is one of the largest, and most popular tourist destinations, in Europe. But the introduction of Low Emission Zones (LEZ) similar to the London England LEZ is a national government responsibility and there are few such zones, unlike Germany and the BENELUX countries.

The Parisian mayors have made a number of similar proposals over the years, such as banning all old cars, and most of them have received vehement decrial from other political parties. One of the problems, not discussed by the Mayor, is that diesel cars are very popular in Europe and large trucks (all of which are diesel powered) are the predominant mode of cartage in western, central and eastern Europe.

We do not think that the proposal will fly but Paris needs a solution and a LEZ would fit the bill. This would be positive for CDTi CDTI.
