HORSEHEADS, N.Y., Jan. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Salient Management Company, developer of enterprise analytics systems, announced today that it has acquired Orobi, Inc., a firm that provides analysis software and services for NBA basketball teams. The company has also hired Orobi’s founder and former Orlando Magic VP of Information Technology, Jason Coleman, as Vice President of Salient Sports.

As VP of Salient Sports, Coleman has introduced two NBA teams as Salient clients, and is charged with further developing Salient’s business in the NBA and other sports.

Coleman founded Orobi, Inc. in 2012, after four seasons as Vice President of Information Technology for the Orlando Magic NBA team and Amway Center Arena. While at the Magic, Coleman supervised the operations of the technology staff, including systems, applications, networks, services, and support for broadcast, A/V, and information technology. He was also a direct contributor to the deployment of analytics software at the Orlando Magic, providing database and programming expertise to support the effort.

As a seasoned analytics developer, Coleman brings a vast skill set in NBA stats data to Salient, and has built a robust solution that includes more than 100 customized reports that are used by analysts, assistant coaches and head coaches on a day-to-day basis for improving their team’s performance on the court.

Prior to tip-off, coaches and analysts use the solution to make decisions on numerous important factors such as lineups, player matchups, and their competing team’s strengths and weaknesses so that they know which areas to focus on in their defense and how to use their players more effectively.
