Dow Chemical’s New Hypertherm for Easy Water Plumbing

Zacks

The Dow Chemical Company (DOW) has announced that it is launching the Hypertherm 2399 Resin for domestic and commercial hot and cold water plumbing pipes at 2015 International Builders' Show. This allows easy bending and installation of plastic pipes in water.

Pipes made with Hypertherm 2399 resin have been able to address the challenge of turning joints when installing copper, steel and rigid plastic pipes. Thus, this resin prevents possibilities of leakages in plastic pipes. Also, pipes made of this resin are light in weight and corrosion-resistant. It is a better substitute for cross-linked polyethylene and requires minimal tooling changes. The extruded pipes require no post curing and can be recycled back into the production stream as required.

Hypertherm 2399 Resin is the first product that abides by the U.S. building codes and product standards for plumbing, and is certified in Level 5 chlorine-resistance. This helps contractors and homebuilders to set up loops and other traditional plumbing systems.

Moreover, pipes made with Hypertherm Resins feature good taste and odor properties. The resins are natural insulators which help to reserve and improve the energy efficiency of hot water.

Recently, Dow has been selected by the Obama Administration for setting up the Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (“IACMI”) jointly with DowAksa and a conglomerate of composites-related businesses, academic leaders and government organizations. This institute will help in the advancement of knowledge and commercialization of carbon fiber composites technology, to cater to the market demand for strong and lightweight materials.

Dow maintains its strategy of reducing earnings cyclicality and boosting earnings by increasing investment in the performance businesses, maintaining integration with the basic businesses and growing them through joint ventures that provide cost advantages.

Dow currently carries a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell).

Better-ranked companies in the diversified chemical space include Innophos Holdings Inc (IPHS), Olin Corp. (OLN) and Air Products & Chemicals Inc. (APD). While Innophos Holdings and Olin sport a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), Air Products carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
