Sigma-Aldrich’s SAFC Validates Dry Powder Media Unit

Zacks

Sigma-Aldrich Corporation (SIAL) announced that its business unit, SAFC Commercial has verified its recently expanded unit in Irvine, Scotland. The unit is responsible for the production of dry powder cell culture media.

The manufacturing unit is an integral part of the five-year capital investment project which was designed to cater to the requirements of SAFC’s consumers for special products and services across the globe. The Irvine plant, which now stands completely ready for production, was started back in Mar 2013.

SAFC has remained flexible enough to provide support to customers in view of the changing market conditions, helping to lower their risks and the cost of ownership. This site is comparable to the U.S. cell culture media manufacturer and supplier, the Lenexa, KS, Center of Excellence. SAFC's new dry powder milling and blending capabilities in Irvine are free of animal components and complement the liquid cell culture media, buffers and reagents.

SAFC, being one of the most modern and unique media facilities, uses globally accepted methods for cell media manufacturing in the industry like those in Lenexa, KS and St. Louis, MO. Thus, it supports projects that are in the initial stages of development on a commercial scale.

The Irvine site has completed all the construction-related work and fully abides by the U.S. FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and EU GMP (European Union Goods Manufacturing Practices) requirements as well as local environmental regulations.

Sigma-Aldrich is a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell) stock.

Better-ranked companies in the specialty chemicals space are Minerals Technologies Inc. (MTX), NL Industries Inc. (NL) and Ashland Inc. (ASH). While Minerals Technologies and NL Industries sport a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), Ashland carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
