Air Products & Chemicals Inc. (APD) announced that it will present a technology controlling the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) at a free webinar.
The cryogenic condensation technique utilizes low-temperature and refrigeration properties of liquid nitrogen to condense gaseous VOCs from vent streams before they can escape into the atmosphere. This pollution control technology can assist companies meet emission standards while bringing operational advantages to the production process.
Oscar Beteta, Air Products’ cryogenic applications engineer, will explain how liquid nitrogen can facilitate companies in controlling VOC emissions. The webinar will also demonstrate the principle of condensation – the driving mechanism behind this process. It will also explain how liquid nitrogen is incorporated into the condensation process and the benefits and challenges of using this technique.
Beteta will also unveil the company’s proprietary Cryo-Condap technology for recovering solvents. The technology uses a method of heat transfer by utilizing a buffering fluid which enables optimization of temperature control and freezing issues. Air Products is working in alliance with a German company, Herco Kuhltechnik GmbH, and has developed sizing and modeling software so that nitreogen consumption can be minimized and energy efficiency maximized.
Air Products reported strong fourth-quarter fiscal 2014 (ended Sep 30, 2014) results wherein its adjusted earnings beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate. Sales went up in the quarter as a decline in the Tonnage Gases division was offset by gains in other businesses. Revenues in the core Merchant Gases segment were driven by higher volumes in key regions and positive pricing in U.S./Canada, Europe and Latin America.
