Information technology company CGI Group Inc. (GIB) teamed up with several Estonian agencies to develop and execute a pioneering emergency response system, which has been specifically designed to accelerate response time in public safety missions.
Estonian agencies that contributed to the project include the Estonian Emergency Response Center, IT and Development Center of the Estonian Ministry of the Interior, the Estonian Health Board and the Estonian Rescue Board. They reportedly developed the system under the Estonian-Swiss cooperation program.
The system features a digital map, which will be installed in the control rooms of the Estonian Emergency Response Center and within ambulances and rescue vehicles. The map will display information about incidents and concerned sites, including the quickest route to the site and the real-time location of accessible resources.
The system will leverage real-time data provided by several mobile devices to suggest the most convenient resources for emergency response operations.
The new system will ensure that emergency resources are deployed more effectively. Also, first responders will be able to exchange emergency information faster, with agencies receiving accurate synopsis of emergency scene and assigned first responders.
The project was demanding as it incorporated the use of several interfaces and data layers. Mapping exact requirements proved to be the greatest challenge, from analysis of rescue work procedures to instructing the rescue workforce on how to operate the new system. CGI’s technological proficiency enabled the evolution of the project from development stages to the execution stage.
The system will greatly benefit the government and citizens of Estonia.
