Interactive Brokers’ December Metrics Up, DARTs Improve

Interactive Brokers Group, Inc.’s (IBKR) Electronic Brokerage segment reported a rise in its brokerage metrics for Dec 2014. The segment deals with clearance and settling of trades for both individual and institutional clients on a global basis.

Total customer Daily Average Revenue Trades (DARTs) were 590,000, up 23% from Dec 2013 and 2% from Nov 2014. Further, total customer accounts grew 17% from the prior-year month and 1% from the preceding month to 281,100.

Interactive Brokers recorded Cleared Customer DARTs of 536,000, increasing 24% from Dec 2013 and 2% from Nov 2014. Moreover, on an annualized basis, Cleared Average DARTs per customer account of 480,000 increased 5% from the comparable prior-year period and 1% from the prior-month level.

Interactive Brokers’ total option contracts came in at 25.4 million, up 13% from the year-ago month and 27% from prior-month level. Future contracts grew 41% from Dec 2013 and 38% from Nov 2014 to 10.5 million.

Interactive Brokers also provides data related to period-end statistics for customer equity, credit balances and margin loan balances. For the period ended Dec 2014, customer equity was $56.7 billion, rising 24% year over year but declining 1% sequentially.

Further, Interactive Brokers recorded customer credit balances of $31.5 billion in the reported month, up 22% from Dec 2013 but down 2% from Nov 2014. Also, the company’s customer margin loan balance of $16.9 billion rose 25% from the prior-year month but fell 10% from the preceding month.
