General Motors’ Cadillac Launches 2016 CTS-V, Shares Up

Share price of General Motors Company (GM) increased 1% to $33.56 on Dec 23, 2014 after Cadillac announced the launch of the 2016 CTS-V. The automaker believes that the 2016 CTS-V is one of the world’s highest-performing luxury vehicles.

The 2016 CTS-V is the third generation of the acclaimed luxury sports sedan, which had launched the elite V-Series almost a decade ago. The vehicle features 640 horsepower (477 kW), 630 lb-ft of torque (855 Nm) and offers a top speed of 200 mph. The horsepower and torque offered by the vehicle are higher than the Daimler AG’s (DDAIF) Mercedes-Benz 5.5L biturbo V-8 and the BMW M-series 4.4L TwinPower (twin-turbo) V-8. This new vehicle is capable of offering 0–60 performance in 3.7 seconds.

The CTS-V is a luxury vehicle with sophisticated road manners, which can perform as a track-capable sports car as well. The 2016 CTS-V introduces a new supercharged 6.2L V-8 engine with Cadillac’s paddle-shift eight-speed automatic transmission. This new engine produces power more efficiently than the previous supercharged engine of Cadillac. The vehicle employs a more efficient and more compact 1.7L supercharger and matches it with direct injection and Active Fuel Management.

The structure of the new CTS is designed to fulfill the high performance requirements. The CTS-V also offers a stronger body structure. The engineers have designed this new vehicle in such a manner that it offers greater body motion control and excellent ride quality.

The CTS-V has a 114.6-inch (2,910 mm) wheelbase along with wider front and rear footprints, which enhance grip, reduce body motion and provide more direct-feeling steering. The track-honed design and suspension elements of the CTS-V complement the powertrain and enhance the vehicle’s capability and performance.
