Orange’s Europe Restructuring Hinged on BT Group Decision

Zacks

French global telecommunications service provider, Orange (ORAN) expects to complete its operational restructuring process in Europe this year itself. The company is presently awaiting a decision from BT Group Plc. (BT) on whether it wants to bid for EE in the U.K.

Notably, EE is jointly held by Orange and Deutsche Telekom AG of Germany. BT Group is trying to make a foray in the wireless market of the U.K. by either acquiring EE or O2, which is a division of Telefonica S.A. (TEF).

In the meantime, Orange is also positive about its proposed acquisition of Jazztel Plc., which offers broadband services along with fixed-line and mobile phones services to enterprise and consumer markets in Spain.

The company boasts around 1.4 million broadband and fixed-line connections along with 1.16 million mobile users. Hence, the deal will help Orange consolidate its position in the highly saturated telecom sphere. Orange will pay around $4.4 billion for this takeover.

In Jun 2014, Orange had announced a tie-up with Deutsche Telekom in order to invest in new companies working on network optimization and access technology, mobile payments, cyber-security, big data, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Meanwhile, Orange is making efforts to improve its networks and services like IP-VPN access, managed services, network resources and Wi-Fi roaming in both the mature and emerging markets.

Moreover, Vodafone Group Plc. (VOD) and Orange have agreed to share the network infrastructure in Romania, which will allow the French telecom operator to extend its reach in rural Romania.

In addition, the company is ramping up Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) deployment in France and Spain.Orange currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
