AT&T Adds Over 200 Jobs in Mississippi under Project VIP

Zacks

U.S. telecom behemoth AT&T Inc. (T) announced that it has hired more than 200 new workers in Mississippi, which takes its year-to-date job creation tally in the region to an excess of 450. The new employees will add to the telecom giant's current Mississippi workforce of over 2,900 people.

AT&T, time and again, has employed new talent in Mississippi as the region holds solid opportunities for private investment and job creation. Interestingly, at present, the company has an additional opening for 43 jobs across Mississippi and the bulk of the openings comprise newly-designed jobs in call centers, retail support, and technician capabilities.

Notably, to a large extent, the employment drive has been led by AT&T's Project Velocity IP (VIP). The company’s multi-billion-dollar Project VIP is an investment plan to augment IP broadband networks to live up to the expectation of customers for high-quality, fast and reliable wireless and wireline Internet connectivity, to predominantly support video streaming.

Also, this is one of AT&T’s most ambitious network build-out initiatives to date. Through this, the company aims to upgrade much of its wireline network to an IP-based infrastructure, including U-verse expansion. Moreover, it also plans to add more fiber optic cable for businesses and provide 4G LTE wireless services to its customers.

AT&T is currently participating in the AWS-3 spectrum auction conducted by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Other major participants are Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ), T-Mobile US Inc. (TMUS) and DISH Network Corp. (DISH). So far, the FCC has accumulated a massive $38.77 billion from this spectrum auction. However, the names of the spectrum license winners are yet to be disclosed.

AT&T currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
