Microchip Launches Digitally Enhanced Analog Controllers

Zacks

Microchip Technology Inc. (MCHP) recently announced the launch of Digitally Enhanced Power Analog (DEPA) controllers titled MCP19118 and MCP19119 for easy integration and flexibility for diverse applications. The innovative products offer unmatched configurability in DC-DC controllers and functionality for battery-charging, power-conversion or LED-drive applications that no other product solution provides in the industry.

The products enable manufacturers to create programmable power supplies by integrating a supervisory microcontroller. These minimize design, production and inventory requirements across multiple platforms. The DEPA controllers also provide high conversion efficiency and excellent transient response for reduced system power losses, smaller heat-sinks and longer battery life in portable applications.

The newly launched products from Microchip are a testament to the relentless pursuit of the company to offer state-of-the-art products that are simple yet effective for the manufacturers. Microchip is also currently reorganizing its production levels to match its inventory levels. Although production levels of wafer fabs and assembly and test facilities have been reduced, Microchip is continuing to ramp production of new technologies that are capacity constrained. This is likely to bring uniform production levels for all products with normal lead times during the December quarter, which is seasonally the weakest quarter of the year.

Microchip expects net sales of $546.2 million for second-quarter fiscal 2015, which includes about $16.9 million from the recent ISSC acquisition. Earlier, concurrent with the first quarter earnings release, management provided net sales guidance for the second quarter between $560.0 million and $575.9 million, including $18 million from the ISSC acquisition. The fall in revenue expectations is primarily attributable to weaker-than-expected sales in China.

Microchip develops and manufacturers microcontrollers, memory and analog and interface products for embedded control systems, which are small, low-power computers designed to perform specific tasks.

Microchip is scheduled to report its second-quarter fiscal 2015 results on Oct 30, 2014. Some other semiconductor companies slated to report earnings shortly include Anadigics, Inc. (ANAD), Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (AMCC) and TriQuint Semiconductor, Inc. (TQNT).
