Lions Gate Expands Home Distribution Deal with Miramax

Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. (LGF) has expanded the domestic home distribution agreement with Miramax, clinching another 250 titles.

This brings the total number of Miramax titles for distribution through Blu-Ray, DVD, EST and Internet Video on Demand to over 700. The latest titles include extensive genres ranging from black comedy (From Dawn till Dusk), horror (Dracula, The Prophecy, and Halloween), hardcore dramas (Marvin’s Room, The Shipping News The Grifters, Her Majesty Mrs. Brown and The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys) and family movies (Pokemon).

Keeping the focus on the upcoming Halloween season, Lions Gate will start off with the Blu-ray and DVD versions of The Faculty, Venom, Wes Craven Presents Dracula, Halloween, Prophecy, Hellraiser and The Crow collections. Lions Gate first signed the deal with Miramax in 2011.

Apart from Miramax titles, Lions Gate also has distribution deals with Studiocanal and A&E. The company’s library boasts of 16,000 titles.

Lions Gate is fast emerging as a leading player in the media industry which boasts of stalwarts like The Walt Disney Co. (DIS), Twenty-First Century Fox, Inc. (FOXA) and CBS Corp. (CBS). With franchises like The Hunger Games and Divergent, the studio has achieved tremendous success. Lions Gate acquired Summit Entertainment in 2012, which has given it the rights for the largely popular young-adult fantasy themed Twilight series.

The studio is grabbing every possible opportunity to expand its presence and soon might become a recognizable power within the media circle.
