DENVER, Oct. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Wood Investment Counsel, LLC and Obermeyer Asset Management Company announce their merger today. The combined firm will do business as Obermeyer Wood Investment Counsel, LLLP with offices in Denver and Aspen. The merger will place Obermeyer Wood among the top 10 investment advisory firms in Denver with approximately $1.7 billion in managed assets.

Wally Obermeyer, founder of Obermeyer Asset Management Company, will serve as co-chairman and president for the new entity with George Wood, founder of Wood Investment Counsel, as co-chairman. The combined organization will include 17 employees with 11 investment professionals among the two offices and a total of 600 family relationships.

He has a broad range of business and financial experience including managing the family’s ski apparel business and founding a hydroelectric generation company. Wood Investment Counsel, LLC was founded by George Wood in 1982 to provide independent investment management.
