JDS Uniphase Corp. (JDSU) has showcased several innovative products from its optical communications and network and service enablement portfolios to support next-generation networks.

In the recently concluded European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC) in France, the company presented 1.5 W Tunable SFP+ Transceiver, Second-Generation TrueFlex Twin 1×9 and 1×20 Wavelength selective switch, TrueFlex Route & Select Super Transport Blade, ONT 100G with CFP2, QSFP28 and MLG, T-BERD/MTS-5800 with OTDR, MAP-220C, ERGO laser and CSAM (100G Services Application Module).

JDS Uniphase manufactures instruments, components and testing tools to deploy and optimize communications equipment and broadband networks. The company supplies its products to several large telecom/cable TV operators including AT&T Inc. (T), Time Warner Cable Inc. (TWC) and Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ).

Earlier this month, the board of directors of JDS Uniphase unanimously approved a plan to split the company into two publicly traded companies. The decision has been taken to maximize shareholders’ value in the context of rapidly changing market dynamics.

The breakup is expected to take place in the third quarter of fiscal 2015. The company will incur a restructuring charge of $75-$100 million which will result in annual cost synergies of $50 million for the combined entity.

Management declared that JDS Uniphase will be divided into an Optical component and commercial lasers company and a Network and service enablement company. The transaction will be completed through a tax-free spinoff.

The Optical components and commercial lasers company will comprise JDS Uniphase’s existing Communications and Commercial Optical Products segment. The Network and service enablement company will comprise JDS Uniphase’s existing Network Enablement, Service Enablement and Optical Security and Performance Products segments.
