Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions, a unified business unit of Cardinal Health Inc. (CAH) and KEW Group, Inc., entered an agreement to make KEW's state-of-the-art diagnostic services available to Specialty Solutions' community oncology customers. Focused on revolutionizing cancer treatment, KEW is a privately held oncology services company.
KEW provides multiple services to oncologists, including genomic testing to assist in treatment decision making. It also enables physicians to apply genomic insights to design optimal, and individualized treatment approaches for patients.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions offers services to help health care professionals, payers and pharmaceutical companies improve the quality of care for patients who are diagnosed with complex diseases.
The expanded agreement with KEW will allow Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions to provide community oncologists access to advanced diagnostics tools. Such an offering will enable them to make informed treatment decisions for patients, while improving the overall cost-effectiveness of care.
Per the agreement, the nationwide network of community oncologists served by Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions will have access to KEW's CancerPlex – a highly versatile and comprehensive genetic test which provides accurate, thorough and timely molecular diagnosis of patients' solid tumors.
After an oncologist orders CancerPlex, a detailed analysis of the patient’s tumor specimen is conducted at KEW's high-tech CLIA laboratory. Information on diagnostic findings and potential treatment options (including clinical trials) that are most appropriate for the patient are then conveyed to the oncologists.
KEW’s molecular sequencing tumor diagnostics tools thus empower oncologists with the ability to provide personalized medicine treatments, previously only available at large cancer treatment and academic centers.
