The ANT+ Symposium in Kananaskis, Canada yesterday witnessed the launch of Connect IQ by a unit of Garmin Ltd. (GRMN), Garmin International Inc.
Connect IQ is an open platform for third-party developers to create apps for Garmin products. The SDK builds on Garmin’s reputation of trusted technology. It emphasizes on minimal power utilization, increased battery life and connectivity to smartphones and peripheral sensors via Bluetooth low energy (BLE) and ANT+.
Garmin has set a trend of developing active lifestyle products that become a vital part of customers’ lives. With Connect IQ, third-party developers can exploit the ever increasing line of top-notch wearables, while leveraging the company’s loyal client base and varied distribution channels.
Developers can not only design colorful always-on watch faces, but also transform rich sensor data into new relevant metrics making use of fully personalized data screens with the help of Connect IQ.
Garmin devices will also be able to support widgets and apps with Connect IQ. Developers can fashion widgets to add to the main screen loop for example when the user has to hydrate after a long run. These apps can be personalized to an individual’s lifestyle.
